The Most Common and Unremarkable Rocker

Now this is a really poor quality rocking chair.  Theses things are everywhere, usually sold for $99; sometimes they are sold unfinished for even less.   They are not weatherproof because they are made from a mixture of hardwoods.  The distinctive feature of these rockers is the wide back slats, which frankly look out of proportion to me and add to the cheapness of the overall look.  These rockers also have a tapered front post , which is done to make the manufacturing process simpler and cheaper - but it also makes the chair more susceptible to having the arm broken when you put your weight on it as you get in and out of the chair.   This same tapering is done at the bottom of the front posts where they attach to the runners for the same reason.  Actually, the runners are what usually give out first, when water gathers inside the joint and rots out the wood over time.  If left outside or even on a covered porch where the chairs can get wet, this usually happens within one or two years.   Whenever I spot these rockers, one or more of them are usually partially rotted out.  They just don't last.

These rockers are also not very comfortable comnpared with other rockers, although I admit that any rocker is nice to sit in.  The seat has very little contour and also you can feel the fronts of the seat slats as you sit in the chair, which can be comfortable as you get out of the chair - and women can easy tear their stockings on the rough slat fronts.  The back of the rocker is inclined but the post itself is straight, which is not as comfortable as more expensive rockers that have an elbow cut into them to give the back more recline.
But overall, I would stay away from rockers like these.  Not only are they not nearly as comfortable as other rockers, they don't look nice and they don't hold up to either the weather or normal use.
